Aquarians are keen campaigners for animal
rights and will, generally, go to whatever lengths they feel
are necessary to improve the global treatment and conditions
of animals. However, when it comes to being a pet-owner yourself,
you are hardly the most enthusiastic and doting in the Zodiac,
mainly due to the fact that there are so many other things
you want to do with your time.
Nonetheless, Aquarians with a penchant
for pets do make good and caring owners. Your problem lies
in finding an animal which fits in with your independent lifestyle
and is sufficiently different to appeal to your unconventional
taste.
As a pet-owner you are unlikely to overburden
your furry or feathered friends with extravagant displays
of emotion. In fact, you will be more inclined to let them
get on with their lives while you get on with your own. That
is not to suggest a lack of affection or concern on your part,
just a natural inability to express your deeper feelings which
applies as much to your relationships with animals as it does
to those with humans.
You certainly appear to enjoy the company of animals and,
curiously enough, tend to be able to cope with several, rather
more easily than with a single pet. Donkeys seem to be a particular
favourite, and it is not unusual for country-dwelling Aquarians
to have a field full of rescue donkeys at the back of their
homes.
Donkeys are, in fact, the ideal pet for
Aquarians, sharing your positive attitude in the face of adversity
and, like you, refusing to budge when their minds are made
up. They are also loyal, friendly, quiet and detached and
well able to get on with their lives while you get on with
yours.
Iguanas are another option for the Aquarian
looking for a pet with a difference. These large tropical
lizards are independent, detached and prefer being left to
themselves. They rarely show their emotions but, despite being
able to bite, scratch and lash out with their tails, can become
very tame with regular handling.
When it comes to cats, the devon rex is
eccentric enough in looks and behaviour to appeal to most
Aquarians. Nicknamed ‘little pixies’, these friendly
cats have very short curly coats which don’t need grooming.
They have impish natures and enjoy plenty of human companionship.
The loyal and friendly mastiff which can
weight up to 13 stone is very much an Aquarian dog, being
intelligent, friendly with other humans and, at times, quite
aloof. It needs mental stimulation rather than huge amounts
of exercise.
The suggestions above are merely guidelines
and in no way suggest that there is only one breed or type
of pet which is suitable for any one Zodiac sign. And it is,
of course, essential to know everything there is to know about
buying and keeping any pet before taking it home.
